Here is how I do it, all audio files are stored on an external volume, an AppleShare File Server in my case, my base collection manager is iTunes and my base DJ software is Traktor. I've created keyboard shortcuts for both setting star ratings and removing tracks from an iTunes collection together with their audio files. Depending on the genre I trash everything below 3 stars. Star rating reflect how "likely" I will use a track with 3 being neutral, 4, 5 likely en 1, 2 not very likely.
